OUR PROGRAM

THE TIME FOR HEALING IS NOW!

Women's Recovery Center of Tampa Bay, Inc. (WRCTB) often referred to as simply the Center, is a 501(c)(3) Public Non-Profit Organization. The Center is a home in the Gulf Coast town of New Port Richey, Florida. It has been a safe haven of recovery for many individual women as well as many mothers with children.

SINCE WE OPENED, WE HAVE BROADENED OUR BORDERS to include an intensive residential program for women and their children.

Dual diagnosis incorporates both addictions and emotional disorders.  Sometimes due to childhood trauma, many of our women are dually diagnosed.  They suffer an array of emotional disorders: anxieties, depressions, post traumatic stress disorders and personality disorders, etc. This can be due to a variety reasons that include abuse, their heredity and dysfunctional living.

In an environment that promotes a quiet calm day and night, the women here  learn about their wounds and how to heal them by releasing their original pain, coming to grips with their past and then moving on.

Many people try to move on in life without going through the healing process. As a result they remain entangled for life.  They often never move beyond their current situation because their past stunts their emotional growth.  Emotional growth is essential to healthy living.  Frequently, they self medicate with drugs and alcohol to forget things in their past that happened to them as children.

Recovery Structure

  • From 9a to 5p, M-F  a variety of classes designed to build upon each other, promote holistic healing of a woman. Body, mind and spirit are targeted.

  • As new behaviors are taught, the old dysfunctional behaviors are hopefully discarded. Subjects covered include, but are not limited to: codependency, bereavement and loss, incest, addictions, compulsive disorders, anxiety, depression and dual recovery.

  • Support groups have been proven to be vital to recovery. Depending on the census, our 12 step groups are known to include AA, NA, DRA, ISA, B&L, Codependency.

  • Prevention is taught. How to identify behaviors in themselves and others that may trigger them into relapse as well as ways to mentally bring themselves from that space.

  • Arts and Crafts including Knitting Patience, Healing Mudras Art Therapy, Crocheting Away Anxiety and Therapeutic Gardening are incorporated.

  • Water therapy, nutrition and yoga are introduced to the body healing process and Bible study basics for spiritual healing.

Intensive Residential Program

PHASE I:  A minimum period of 3 months with no set maximum amount of time provides a structure that provides a necessary consistency.  Upon entry an evaluation is given with subsequent evaluations at 3 month intervals.  Typically it will take 3 months FOR HER to learn AND accept that she has behaviors that need to be changed.  She must be willing and able to admit that her life has become unmanageable.

Another 3 months is needed to replace those old negative behaviors with new positive ones.  Ideally, the woman is ready to face the stress of a job after 6 months of classes, but she will still need the structure: Curfew, up and down times, meal times, play time, and time to relax.

NOTE:  Part/time employment is recommended at first.

PHASE II:  After 6 months, she has learned how to control herself and to make positive, productive choices.  At this point she will begin to search for employment AND IF she has incorporated the finance and dream building classes, she now has a business plan plus goals for her future and the skills to carry those out; however, she will still be in need of the support system the Center offers to encourage and cheer her on towards her goals.

After 9 months, she is no longer controlled by her fears.  She has overcome them and has learned to act with courage, integrity and dignity. She has released herself from worry, guilt and regret about her past and present, AND she is now  aware enough NOT to repeat them. She has aquired a new love and acceptance of herself and others.  She genuinely feels lovable, capable of loving and being loved.

PHASE III:  After one year, she is now seeing herself as equal to others.  Her new relationships, as well as those that have been renewed, are all with equal partners.  She has become capable of developing and maintaining healthy and loving relationships.  Her need to control and manipulate others has disappeared as she has learned that she can trust those who are trustworthy. She can communicate with her family and others in a way that is safe for her and respectful of them.  She no longer needs to rely solely on others to provide her sense of self-worth - she believes in her own capabilities. She will gradually experience serenity and spiritual growth in her daily life.

Finally, she is ready to embark on her new future with tools, attitudes and behaviors that work. She is ready to move on without the shackles that bound her before.  She has learned that she really is worthy of good things in her life.  She will understand a new sense of belonging.  Her feelings of emptiness and loneliness will have disappeared.

DISCLAIMER:  It must be kept in mind that this all depends on the individual.  Some learn faster than others, so their time may be shorter or longer depending on the respective individual.  Some may take years to process it all and some may never learn.

We operate on a strictly voluntary basis and are, therefore, not a locked facility.  It is necessary for them to make a personal commitment to themselves for life recovery.
